Why You Should Consider Hiring A Dumper Truck

In short, you’ll need a dumper truck to move material such as aggregate, or waste such as mud & earth etc, from one part of a building site to another. For this reason, dumper trucks are generally off-road vehicles. They’ll normally be very good at driving off-road, in extremely muddy and wet conditions, and particularly good at climbing steep inclines. A dumper truck will normally have wheels as opposed to tracks, but still, very suitable for off-road use.

 

A dumper truck can be as small as a 1-tonne skip loader (1-tonne skip loader) all the way up to something much much larger! (big dumper)

 

 

But generally, the largest dumper truck you will see on most building sites is a 6-tonne dumper truck.

 

The weight rating of a dumper truck, i.e. 1 tonne or 6 tonne, will normally be the weight that it can carry, not its unladen weight. 

 

There are also various different types of dumpers, split into three categories: Skip Loader, Swivel dumper, and Straight tip dumper.

• A skip loader (1-tonne skip loader) will ‘tip out’ as with all dumper trucks but it will also go ‘up and down’, which is handy for loading material into skips or onto the back of a van for example.  

• A Swivel dumper does not go up and down, but it does swivel left and right by 90 degrees in each direction. This is particularly handy for driving along a trench and tipping ‘sideways’ as opposed to having to keep driving forwards towards a trench before tipping material out.

• A Straight tip dumper is the most boring out of the 3! It just tips out, that’s it. The bigger the dumper truck, the more likely it is to be a straightforward Straight tip dumper.
