Things to Consider When Hiring Plant Equipment
24 August 2022
Buying plant equipment outright isn’t always the most feasible or sensible solution, especially if you only need the equipment every now and then. There are lots of plant hire companies out there supplying the equipment on a temporary basis, so it’s easier than ever to access what you need, but choosing a supplier isn’t quite as easy as going with the first one that comes up on Google.
In this blog, we’re going to highlight some of the top things you need to consider when looking to hire plant equipment.
Things To Consider When Hiring Plant Equipment?
When you are looking for a company to rent plant equipment from, you need to look at several core aspects of how their business is run and whether the service on offer aligns with your needs. Most people base their decision on budget and proximity alone, but there’s much more to it than that:
Type of Equipment you Need
In most instances, you’ll know what type of equipment you need. For example, if you’re looking for a mini digger, you’ll know to filter out companies that offer mini digger hire. If you’re unsure as to which type of equipment could be best for your needs, you need reassurance and expert guidance from the supplier.
If the company that you’re looking at renting from doesn’t offer any guidance or assurances on the type of equipment you’re renting, they’re likely not the company for you.
Availability
Next, you need to think about the availability that’s on offer. Ideally, if you’re going to be doing work during peak season, i.e. summer, you should be checking months in advance. You also need to check how long a piece of equipment is available for and whether that works with your time frame. If you need something for a week but it’s only available for three days, this won’t work. Always check and book as far in advance as you can.
Safety
Not all plant hire equipment is the same. Some suppliers, like JW Clark, ensure fleets are kept up to date and safety checks are regularly carried out, but not every supplier is like us. Make sure you ask lots of questions about the safety of the equipment, when it was last serviced, and how old it is.
Quality
Tying into safety is the quality of the equipment. As mentioned, at JW Clark, our plant equipment is regularly updated to ensure it’s safe and new, but some suppliers keep their fleets for years. When not properly maintained, the quality of the equipment can diminish, and this could hold up your project if any repairs or replacements are needed.
Service
Customer service is a must, especially when you’re hiring large pieces of machinery. Make sure the team is knowledgeable and friendly, and ensure the service they offer is as smooth and streamlined as can be. Building projects are a headache at the best of times, let alone when you need to go to multiple suppliers because no single one offers the exact service you need.
